Meta description: Learn how to easily integrate Google Blogger with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to track your blog's performance, understand your audience, and gain valuable insights. This step-by-step tutorial makes it simple for bloggers of all levels.
Introduction to Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the latest iteration of Google's analytics platform, offering a more comprehensive and event-driven approach to understanding user behavior. Integrating GA4 with your Blogger site allows you to gain crucial insights into your audience, traffic sources, and content performance.
This tutorial will guide you through the process, assuming you have an active Blogger blog and a Google account.
Step 1: Create or Access Your Google Analytics 4 Property
If you already have a GA4 property, you can skip to Step 1.2.
1.1. Create a New GA4 Property:
Go to
and sign in with your Google account.Google Analytics If it's your first time, click Start Measuring. If you have an existing account, click Admin (the gear icon in the bottom left corner).
In the Admin section, under the "Account" column, click Create Account (or select an existing account if you have one).
Follow the prompts to name your account and configure data-sharing settings. Click Next.
On the "Property setup" page, enter a Property name (e.g., your blog's name).
Select your Reporting time zone and Currency. Click Next.
Provide your Business information (industry category, business size, and how you intend to use Analytics). Click Create.
Accept the Google Analytics Terms of Service if prompted.
1.2. Get Your GA4 Measurement ID:
In Google Analytics, navigate to the Admin section (gear icon in the bottom left).
Under the "Property" column, select the GA4 property you created or want to use.
Under "Data collection and modification," click on Data Streams.
Click on the Web data stream associated with your blog. If you don't have one, click Add stream and choose Web, then enter your blog's URL and a stream name.
On the "Web stream details" page, you will see your Measurement ID (it starts with "G-"). Copy this ID; you'll need it in the next step.
Step 2: Add Your GA4 Measurement ID to Blogger
Blogger provides a straightforward way to integrate Google Analytics.
Sign in to your Blogger dashboard.
In the left-hand menu, click Settings.
Under the "Basic" section, find Google Analytics Measurement.
In the field provided, paste the GA4 Measurement ID (the "G-XXXXXXXXX" code) you copied from Google Analytics.
Click Save.
Important Note for Older Blogger Themes:
If you're using a classic Blogger template (not the newer "Layouts" themes), the "Google Analytics Measurement" option might not be available directly in the settings. In this case, you would need to manually add the GA4 global site tag (gtag.js) to your blog's HTML.
To check if you need to switch themes:
In Blogger, go to Theme.
Next to "EDIT HTML," click the down arrow.
Look for an option like "Switch to second generation Layouts theme." If you see it, it's recommended to switch for easier integration and better compatibility.
If you must manually add the code (for advanced users or older themes):
In your GA4 Data Stream settings (from Step 1.2), under "Google tag," click View tag instructions.
Select the Install manually tab. You will see a JavaScript snippet (your Google tag) that begins with `` and ends with
</script>
. Copy this entire code.In your Blogger dashboard, go to Theme.
Click the down arrow next to "Customize" and select Edit HTML.
Find the
<head>
section in your theme's HTML.Paste the entire Google tag snippet just after the opening
<head>
tag.Click Save theme.
Step 3: Verify Your GA4 Integration
It can take some time (up to 24 hours, but often less) for data to start appearing in your GA4 property.
Go back to your Google Analytics account.
In the left-hand menu, click Realtime (under "Reports").
Now, open your Blogger blog in a new browser tab or window.
Navigate through a few pages on your blog.
Go back to your Google Analytics Realtime report. You should start seeing active users and page views from your own activity. This confirms that your GA4 tracking is working correctly.
Step 4: Explore Your Google Analytics 4 Reports
Once data starts flowing, you can explore various reports in GA4 to understand your blog's performance:
Realtime Report: See what's happening on your site right now.
Engagement Reports: Understand how users interact with your content (page views, scroll depth, events, etc.).
Acquisition Reports: Discover where your users are coming from (organic search, social media, direct, referrals).
Demographics and Tech Reports: Learn about your audience's characteristics and the devices they use.
Congratulations! You've successfully integrated Google Analytics 4 with your Blogger site. You can now use these powerful insights to improve your content, attract more readers, and grow your blog.
